I recently spent some of my time in lockdown watching ‘Veep’ and discovered that it is one of the funniest and best written shows I’ve ever seen. With this in mind, I decided to go back and re-watch the British show on which ‘Veep’ is based on.

‘The Thick Of It’ season 1 is three short episodes looking at the behind the scenes of a local MPs office and the aggressive Downing Street enforcer that controls them (sound familiar?).

The show is created by Armando Iannucci of Alan Partridge and Veep fame, and also written by the likes of Jesse Armstrong (Peep Show, Succession) and Simon Blackwell (Four Lions, Breeders), the dialogue is sharp, funny, and very British.

Peter Capaldi is only a supporting character in this first season but his Malcolm Tucker is instantly iconic, with his aggression and and foul mouth contrasting to the very laid back approach of everyone else.

I really look forward to continuing my way through this show.
