Closing out the spectacular DC Fandome event was arguably the most anticipated DC movie coming up, Matt Reeves’s ‘The Batman’ starring Robert Pattinson.
The film started production in the UK in January of this year but due to the Corona Virus pandemic filming was suspended in March with only “25 to 30%” of production complete and they are only finally ready to restart in September.
Despite this, Matt Reeves still closed DC Fandome with some fascinating insights and then a compelling trailer.
The film very much (and this isn’t a criticism in anyway, it’s exactly what I want) is like Matt Reeves’ version of if David Fincher made a Batman film, in a similar mould to how ‘Skyfall’ was Sam Mendes’ version of if Nolan did a Bond film, and honestly I can’t wait to see a detective and mystery centric Batman film.
I was initially concerned about Pattinson’s Batman but massively excited to see his Bruce, and after the trailer, I think his Batman looks incredible but I struggle to see Bruce Wayne, I just see an emo kid. However, Pattinson is a great actor and I imagine by the end of the film we will see a much more recognisable Bruce. Currently he looks like the number one candidate to be the guy running around Gotham dressed like a Bat.
We don’t get much of a look at Zoe Kravitz/Jeffrey Wright/Paul Dano etc but the casting for the film is perfect and once the film is shot I can’t wait to see more teases of them. This film looks dark, sexy, thrilling, and very comics accurate.
