As the film industries begins to try and get back to some sort of normality, breaking news is starting to leak out again, but this is the most spectacular of news that no one saw coming.
It is confirmed that Ben Affleck will be returning to the role of Bruce Wayne (and also portraying Batman) in 2022s ‘The Flash’, after publicly retiring from the role after the disaster of ‘Justice League’.
At the same time, Affleck was going through great personal troubles and when deciding if he would direct and star in his own Batman film, friend even told Affleck he’d “drink himself to death” if he did.
However, a couple of years after retiring the role Affleck is in a much better place personally and will even have his performance in ‘Justice League’ shown in a new light in next years ‘Snyder Cut’ on HBO Max, so all these factors may have contributed to this decision.
We may find out more details at tomorrow’s DC Fandome event (hopefully understand how it will link with Michael Keaton’s return) and we should be much clearer idea of how big Affleck’s role will be, and if it’s his last time playing Bruce Wayne.
I have some issues with the universe Zack Snyder established (DC has been much better in the last 3 years) but his casting is usually perfect and Affleck is one of them, and hopefully we will see plenty more of him under the cowl.
