A StudioCanal Picture, Written by Kevin Hood, Don Roos, Tom Bezucha, Directed by Mike Newell.
Mike Newell is a very experienced and well respected director, rightfully so, and his previous work made him a good candidate to tackle this story, and he made a good start in the cast of the lead star, but from there, it just never clicked.
This isn’t a bad movie particularly, it’s just a slightly nothing film. It never really gets going, leaving the plot and emotional attachment to any character feeing entirely underdeveloped, despite its two hour run time.
Lily James is one of the most instantly likeable and charismatic actresses in Hollywood, but even she can’t save this film, as the writing prevents us from ever truly getting to know or care for any of there characters.
