A Sony Picture, Written by Erin Cressida Wilson, Directed Atom Egoyan.
The erotic thriller has the potential to be one of the best genres in cinema when done right, but it is a genre that has also had so many poor films and knock offs that it is often tough to take serious. This film is somewhere in the middle.
The cast and concept are excellent, with Oscar winner Julianne Moore and breakout star Amanda Seyfried generating great chemistry, and Liam Neeson also doing a decent job in a thankless role.
However, the film never really commits to its premise and can’t quite decide whether it is a prestige drama or a trashy erotic thriller, and in the end becomes neither.
However, it has certain very memorable scenes and it is worth watching for Seyfried alone. She makes for a great femme fatale and for over a decade now has been one of the most underrated actresses working in Hollywood.
