A StudioCanal Picture, Written by Paul King, Hamish McColl, Directed by Paul King.
During this incredibly scary and dark period of time the world finds itself in, I wanted to try and finally watch a film I had heard was incredibly wholesome, and I was not disappointing.
‘Paddington’ is a thoroughly charming and enjoyable adventure, with a strong emphasis on old school Britain and family, both of which are nice to see right now.
The film also operates as a very clear, but subtle, immigration parable about how the modern world seems much less accepting of people from ‘foreign lands’.
Ben Whishaw is perfectly cast as the voice of Paddington, bringing a lovable playfulness to the famous bear. Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Peter Capaldi, and Nicole Kidman all also make strong impressions throughout.
I have heard that the sequel is even better, and I will be watching that very soon, and I am definitely looking forward to it. These films capture a spirit we all need right now.
