This is very much a personal list of a few actresses who I feel are incredibly talented and could potentially become the next big things in Hollywood, and while many of them have made multiple films or big tv shows already at a young age, I still feel that they have the potential to become really huge stars in the next few years.
Jodie Comer
This actress is right at the top of my list because she is arguably my favourite star right now due to her mesmerising role as assassin Villanelle on hit show Killing Eve. For her role, she has already won a BAFTA and Emmy, and is surely a front runner for the Golden Globe. Her performance is truly the best of TV right now, she has made Villanelle terrifying, lovable, hilarious and sexy all at once, and in return she has gone from respected supporting actress in British TV shows, to one of the most in demand actresses in Hollywood. She will make her major big screen debut in the Ryan Reynolds starring comedy Free Guy, and she has supposedly booked the female lead role alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel (many people, including myself are nervous about this due to the nature of the role). However, Killing Eve (unfortunately) is likely to only have a maximum of one more season after the currently in production season 3 which means she will have much more time to do film roles, and with her immense talent and rapidly growing fan base, I wouldn’t be surprised if she joined a major franchise and even potentially received an Oscar nomination within the next few years. The sky is the limit for one of Britain’s finest.
Elle Fanning
Still at the young age of just 21, Elle Fanning has been starring in films since 2001 and in recent years has been the lead in multiple independent films, as well as one of the stars of the Maleficent franchise. She is an incredible talent who brings so much to every film she is in, with The Neon Demon being a personal stand out performance from her. In my mind she would be a perfect casting choice for when DC make a Supergirl film, and as she continues to take fascinating independent film roles, then I wouldn’t be surprised if she becomes an Oscar nominee in the near future.
Florence Pugh
Since her breakthrough performance in 2016s Lady Macbeth her career has taken off due to her immense talent and screen presence at such a young age. 2018 really launched her with 3 films, a TV movie and a big television series. However, 2019 is the year she has really broken through with roles in Fighting With My Family, Midsommar, and the upcoming Little Women. This has amassed her a growing fanbase and critical acclaims, and she could potentially receive awards attention for Little Women. However, it is her co-lead role in 2020s MCU epic Black Widow that is sure to send her into the stratosphere, and the character she plays could very well become the new Black Widow for the MCU going forward.
Margaret Qualley
An actress that I first discovered in a key supporting role as the incredibly underrated HBO drama The Leftovers where she was very convincing as a troubled teenage girl, and since then she has gone on to take roles in movies that allow her to show many different sides of herself, with her biggest movie role so far coming in the key supporting performance she gave in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, where she stole scenes from Brad Pitt of all people. She is also now an Emmy nominee for her role in the 2019 limited series Fosse/Verdon, and with the undeniable talent she has, I’m sure she is going to be a very in demand actress in the coming years.
Mille Bobby Brown
She is already one of the most famous actresses in the world at the young age of 15 due to her breakthrough performance as ‘Eleven’ in Netflix’s Stranger Things. However, she has only starred in one film so far and that was 2019s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a role which she will reprise in 2020s Godzilla vs. Kong and she will also star as Sherlock Holmes’ sister in Enola Holmes. However, the majority of her time for at least the next two or three years are still likely to be taken up by filming for Stranger Things, and by the time that is finished, she will no longer be a child star, and will be a grown actress ready to take the next step in her career, and with her already huge fanbase and undeniable talent, it could make her a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood for years to come.
